A Seriously Budget Bouquet

Things you'll need: Flowers from the Tesco bargain bin (these were £1.79), an empty 2l bottle of Evian & a short piece of ribbon

I am totally broke at the moment, but I am also trying to make my desk a calm and comfortable place to work. This morning in Tesco I found these gorgeous flowers for only £1.79! I came home and realised that our little rental flat didn't come with any vases, so I cut an empty Evian bottle in half with a kitchen knife (beware of cutting yourself, obviously) and tied a piece of ribbon around the middle! The result is not too shabby, considering it hardly cost me anything!

More Important Stuff from TED

I know I have been posting a lot of TED stuff lately, but the TEDWomen conference was so full of extraordinary, inspiring and visionary women, that it seems important to keep spreading their words around the world.

This talk is particularly significant to me, as I look to making my first steps into the working world. I am particularly struck by the data pertaining to the likability of successful women and men. I hope to be one of the women who, in whatever small way, helps to right this inequality – it seems crazy that we still have so far to go. Our minds haven’t caught up with our legislation yet. Equality still eludes us in fundamental ways.

A New Chapter...

You may remember that my best friend had an interview for her first job a while back, well of course she got it (people recognise genius when it's sitting in front of them) and today is her first day... In her honour, here are some gorgeous pictures from the Koton Fall 2010 campaign. We dress for the life we want, so she looks more CEO than intern today. Lord knows it won't be long until she has shot up the ladder.

She Means Business: A Picture Story

My best friend has her first serious job interview in a few weeks time, and because I’m procrastinating, I have put together a picture story of the Big Day.

For the interview, she all business. The Burberry mac says polished and put-together, but when it comes off and she’s in front of their eyes, the all-black ensemble doesn’t distract attention for her insanely intelligent mind. A bright blue notebook shoes her fun side – but it’s neat and sophisticated, just like herself.

When she arrives home, she’s drained and excited – she gets cosy in her PJs, and sticks on a West Wing, while tucking into a celebratory cupcake from Hummingbird and a cup of tea.

That evening she throws on a chic and comfy 3.1 Philip Lim number and trots out for drinks with her best friend (ME!) and dinner with her delicious and frighteningly brilliant boyfriend, eventually collapsing into bed – exhausted, excited and taking the ‘real world’ by storm!
