Fictional Worlds, Real Style

Christina Tonkin decorated the interiors for both Gossip Girl and Sex and The City. The apartments and spaces are so familiar to us, and yet, I never thought about who was behind them. She also designed the events, like the Kiss on the Lips party of season one and Charlotte York and Lily Van Der Woodsen's weddings! I think what's wonderful is that Christina has such a wonderful understanding of a character's aesthetic, like Nate's 'den'. Quite, quite brilliant.

Many Clouds, One has a Silver Lining...

I'm absolutely dreading the fall. I mean, this heat is ridiculous, but it's so much better than the freezing winds of the fall in Edinburgh. Going into my final year of university, I know it's the last time I'll have to live through a Scottish winter, so I should try to see the romantic side of the ice-cold climate. Well, that might be easier to do in the new fall lines! Gorgeous. I love the layers, and will certainly be looking into a flying jacket, ribbed knit tights, capes and curve hemmed hoodies! LOVE!

Half-asleep Thoughts

Working as an intern, I spend all day thinking of things to blog about… Ever night this week I’ve arrived home with only enough time to eat, shower, struggle to keep my eyes open during an episode of Frasier, and then fall asleep. It’s not the work that kills me, it’s the HOURS of commuting. It’s soul-destroying. However, I promise to get my act together soon… On the mean time, here are some pretty things to enjoy…

This is how a tattoo ages well

And this is how to make a bun look new and interesting

I would love to live in a house that opens into the wilderness...

And there I would have a bathtub in front of a fireplace!

Inside and Out...

I’m obsessed with houses at the moment. I love interior decorating blogs (obviously) but I have no interest in gardens. Having said that, look at these… Pretty…

I Can Admit When I'm Wrong!

Having said what I said about the detail in men’s’ dress, I now must take it back! I love every detail in this picture. The Chanel envelope clutch, the Liberty and Hermes scarf, the Hermes enamel bracelet, the scallop-edged shorts with the kimono belt! And a teeny tiny tattoo on the back of her left wrist... I’m in loooove!

Tommy Tommy Tommy Tommy Ton...

I have oft spoken of my love of mens’ fashion. I marvel at the creativity within the constraints of sartorial elegance. Tommy Ton is the master of capturing these beautifully intricate details. Here are some devilishly striking men from outside the tents at Milan…

Trunk Sale

If, like me, you’ve been pottering around London in the last few weeks, then you’re probably acquainted with the Elephant Family project, which brought designers, celebrities and royals together to decorate large, fibreglass elephants, which were placed around London to be admired. What I didn’t know until reading The Sunday Times Style supplement today was that they are all up for auction in aid of the charity! They’re running to about £10,000, and I certainly would struggle to find a home for something so enormous in my home, but still a part of me wishes I could take one home. Here are some of my favourites…

So Simple, So Chic...

My love of the Olsens knows no bounds. My best friend and I agree that every time we shop, we are attracted to ‘Olsen Pieces’…

This look is so simple.
But would it ever look as good on a mere (style) mortal?
Tee, $33

Chain necklace, $35

Isn't There A Spell To Reverse That?

Emma Watson is showing us how NOT to do ‘festival style’. A corset top that looks like a prop from a bad Renaissance sitcom, too long, too short, too tight denim shorts, a bag that looks like it came from the gift shop at a Caribbean hotel and wellies with long socks! Ok, if you’re not in the UK, then you won’t know that the weather at the moment is stiflingly hot. How in the world is she wearing socks and wellies?! I was roasting today in ballet pumps!!

Bad, bad, bad. Sometimes t-shirts, shorts and flip-flops are enough…
